The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each chapter will be invited and encouraged to participate in the NW Region Auditions (then each region advances the top five singers in each category to the National Preliminary Round). Ties are allowed.
The one exception to advancing from the chapter auditions is Advanced Classical singers ages 22-30 and American Negro Spiritual Categories singers, who may bypass the chapter auditions and sing in Regionals for the first round.
Direct Entry: we accept direct entry submissions to the NW Regional NSA for NW teachers who are 100+ miles from a chapter. The teacher must reside in the NW region to participate in this way.
HOW
The winners' teachers will have to register and submit their students' performance videos via AuditionWare.
IMPORTANT DATES:
February 10th, 2023 - NW Region Video Auditions registration open
February 27th, 2023 - Deadline for Chapter Finalists video submissions for the NW Regional Round of NSAs
March 20th, 2023 – results announcement
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. The 90% rule: In the regional round, only students who have received 2 scores of 90 or above, or an average score of 90 or above, will enter the next round. However, the chapters do NOT have to follow it -- it's up to each chapter whether to apply this 90% rule. 2. Repertoire:
Please make sure to review the repertoire requirement carefully before registering for the chapter auditions. Singers might get disqualified in the Regional round if the repertoire doesn't meet the requirement. If there are any questions regarding the repertoire review, members are welcome to contact Hsin Yi Lin directly well in advance.
Repertoire Change: When a singer advances from chapter auditions to regionals, they may change/substitute only one song if they desire.

The exciting experience of chapter NATS Student Auditions, where singers perform and receive written feedback, is now an annual regional and national competition with total prizes of over $30,000 at the national level!
How Does It Work
The long-standing tradition of Chapter NATS Student Auditions also offers the opportunity for the top singers in each chapter to compete against other singers from around the Northwest Region. Each NATS teacher will have the opportunity register his/her students for chapter student auditions. Once chapter auditions are complete (no later than mid-February) the chapter volunteers will automatically send the lists of those who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place, from 9th grade to young adult and avocational adult, to the regional level. The regional coordinator will email an invitation to all chapter winners with instructions on how to submit the online form for the Regional NSA round.
Application to the Regional NSA round, which is the first level of the National Student Auditions, is voluntary and only available to singers who place at the chapter level. The one exception is advanced classical singers ages 22 - 30, who may bypass the chapter auditions. The NW regional competition is by video only; there is no live adjudication for the regional level.
Chapters who will be holding their auditions prior to mid-February are eligible to send students on to the NW Regional level. Please talk to your NATS teacher about entry rules and categories, or visit the NATS national page for all rules and details.
